Easter in Ibiza

This year the “Semana Santa” happens in a very early stage on the calendar. For that reason, a lot of places runs to open during this weekend, that always put a mark for the start of the season. We don’t know if the season will start for real or we have to wait the end of April (with the official club openings). Anyway, we’ll enjoy all the activities that will take place during these days…

FROM SACRED TO PROFANE…

As a religious celebration, Ibiza is famous for the Easter Processions. The largest one takes place on Good Friday in Ibiza Town, where hundreds of penitents carry heavy platforms depicting sacred events through the narrow streets, accompanied by mournful music. Another major procession occurs on Easter Sunday in Santa Eulalia, starting from the town center and ending at the local church. These religious processions feature participants dressed in traditional Catholic robes and pointed hats, known as Capirotes, which are inspired by medieval clothing. A suggestive and traditional happening not to miss…

By the way, if you’re not interested in religious stuff, the other side of the island also offers something to enjoy the place. The famous Las Dalias Hippy Market in San Carlos holds a special Easter edition, offering unique handicrafts, local products, and a vibrant atmosphere; as well as the Sunday market in San Joan can give you a nice pre-lunch entertainment. The Agroturismo Atzaro in Ibiza hosts an Easter Saturday event with activities for children, such as sports, games, painting, and crafts, as well as a special lunch for adults. Lunch: this is a point. Special dish for Easter, typical from here, is the Cuinat (a vegetable and chickpea stew) followed by Flaó (a cake made with eggs and soft cheese, so forget Colomba 😛 ). You can indulge in these traditional Ibizan Easter foods at local cafes and restaurants across the island. Or even at a payes home if you’re lucky enough to know one…

The day is long, but the night could be longer…Music happening will take place during these nights, taking you to the dance floor of some cool disco clubs on the island. Akasha, in the north of ibiza, will open the week Thursday 28th with the Sven Vath performance, followed by a special Acid Pauli act on Saturday 30th and a super Ethereal party for the 31st. In Marina Botafoch, Club Chinoise will open its doors Thursday as well with “The Trip” (Part one), followed by Boho Experience on Friday, The Trip (Part two) on Saturday and a big La Troya Easter Party to end up the week on Sunday. For the beach lover, Tanit Beach will also have an opening party on the 29th! So, you just have to choose…or save energy for all!!!

The weather?!? Windy days will leave the place to lovely sun. So, why not pick a last minute flight and come here for the next weekend?
